The Catholic Communicators of SIGNIS India held their Annual National Assembly (SINA) 2023 from December 6 to 9 at the St Joseph Vaz Spiritual Centre in Old Goa, with a theme of "Speaking with the Heart: The Truth in Love."
Archbishop-Patriarch of Goa and Daman,Most Rev. Felipe Neri Cardinal Ferrao presided over the inaugural Mass. In his homily, he emphasized the importance of effective communication rooted in humility and compassion. He drew inspiration from St. Mother Teresa's humble beginnings and encouraged Catholic communicators to embody a compassionate heart. Cardinal Ferrao also challenged communicators to embrace modern technology, becoming digital missionaries like St. Joseph Vaz, focusing on communicating truth in love and leveraging knowledge through technology.
The assembly honoured Dr. Shaison P. Ouseph, Dr. Sandra K Rana, the director and producer of Face of the Face Less, and CBCI OSC Chairman Bishop Dr. Henry D'Souza for their significant contributions to pastoral communication.
SIGNIS Asia President Fr Stany Kozhichira delivered a keynote address promoting communication activities in the new era. The assembly featured sessions on countering fake news, digital evangelization, and the role of truth in the gospel. Bishop of Bellary, Most Rev. Henry D'Souza, emphasized the importance of truth and love in communication. Rev. Fr. Henry Falcao stressed the need to balance heart and head in communication. The SINA 2023 statement emphasized new plans and a renewed vision for passionate communication.
Before the National convention, the Governing body meeting consisting of National office bearers, Secretary CBCI OSC, Director of NISCORT and Regional Presidents was held on the 6th evening. The Regional Secretaries were also invited for this meeting.
The Annual General Body meeting was held in the second half of December 8. Rev. Fr. Victor Vijay Lobo, SIGNIS India National President, chaired the session. Representatives from the Regions presented the reports of their respective regions. After discussions and deliberations, the forum also chalked out action plans for the coming year. A few new members were present, and they were introduced to the SIGNIS assembly.
As for the next SINA, the Telugu (Andhra and Telangana) region has agreed to host it in January/ February 2025.
The National Assembly and Annual General Body meeting concluded with many takeaways for the year ahead. President Fr. Victor Vijay Lobo thanked all those who contributed to SINA's success and honored Fr. Olav Caidado, The Western Regional President, and the team.
